Yang Deficient: Implies a lack of Yang energy, which is warm and active.

Potential Questions for Assessment

  • Physical:
    • Do you feel cold easily, especially in your hands and feet?
    • Do you have a low body temperature?
    • Do you experience fatigue or lack of energy?
    • How is your appetite and digestion?
    • How would you describe your complexion?
  • Mental:
    • Do you often feel tired or lack motivation?
    • How would you describe your personality?

The person has:

– a pale face, white skin complexion

– cold hands, feet, waist, and lower part of body

black circles around the eyes

– soft and weak muscles,

– passes loose stools and excessive & clear urine

– prone to phlegm and body swelling

– sweat without exertion

 

The person experiences: 

                                                        – discomfort after eating cold food

– prefers hot food & drink

– easy to feel cold or shivering, especially after staying in air-conditioned room or cold weather for long period          

– easy to catch cold and flu

– easy to have diarrhoea

– not easy to sweat

 

Note: – It shows similar problem to someone having serious Qi deficient, i.e., poor diet, overwork, stress and old age

 

Keeps body and feet warm by going to hot spring and sauna or wearing warm clothing, engages in mild exercise (e.g jogging, yoga, low-impact cardio, tai chi)                 

Easily tired from mental exertion   

              Note: Lifting up one’s spirit helps); Prone to obesity (an inherited Yang Deficient body)

Introvert and quiet (due to social conditioning and lifestyle), dislikes or lazy to talk High tolerance of heat, sensitive to low temperatures or noises, feeling uncomfortable in windy, cold, humid environments
