Decluttering Your PC Desk Matters!

Hi Everyone,

I’ve done it, this morning. The decluttered desk is such a joy to work with that I want to share this with all of you.

Decluttering has become a popular trend in recent years, largely thanks to the influence of Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing consultant that have inspired many people to declutter their homes and rooms by keeping only items that “spark joy”.

In today’s digital age, many professionals juggle multiple devices—mobile phones, laptops, notebooks, and accessories—while working on AI chatbot research or other tech-driven tasks.

I had accumulated many laptops, tablets, handphones, accessories, cables through the years, just like anyone get caught up with the “next” big thing in the rapid advancements in microprocessors and IC chips.

I had three laptops/notebook with a 24” Full HD IPS display Monitor shared with some of them. Each has its own mouse and/or keyboard attached to it.  It is just no more fun working with such clutters on my pc desktop.

My Initial action was to transfer all electrical accessories and loose items on my desk into a recycled box.

  1. Assess and Prioritize My Devices
  2. Optimize My 24” LCD Display Setup: Use the 24” display as my primary screen for AI chatbot research to reduce eye strain; Connect multiple laptops to a single monitor using a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch, namely HDMI 1 to my beloved trusted Laptop (which has a flashing screen) and HDMI 2 to the remaining two laptop/notebook and local free-on-air TV set-up box.
  1. Manage My Accessories Efficiently: Use a USB hub to reduce cable clutter; Keep essential accessories—keyboard, mouse, headphones, and external drives—within easy reach.
  1. Cable Management Solutions: Route cables behind or underneath the desk to keep them out of sight; Label cables for easy identification.
  1. Adopt a Minimalist Desk Approach: Keep only essential items on my desk to create a clean and distraction-free environment.

I could notice a significant improvement in my workflow and overall chatbot prompt queries’ productivity today.

I love to hear your comments or your experience in decluttering your own pc desk.
